Plugin licensing

The Forum Fortress plugin is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. The exact SPDX identifier is GPL-2.0-or-later.

Each distributed plugin package includes the complete GNU GPL version 2 text and a project notice. Under that licence you may run, inspect, modify, fork and redistribute the plugin, including modified or commercially distributed copies, provided you follow the GPL's terms. The Forum Fortress Terms of Service do not add restrictions to those software-licence rights.

The hosted service is separate

The GPL covers the plugin code supplied in the package. It does not provide:

  • a Forum Fortress subscription or plan allowance;
  • API credentials or hosted-service capacity;
  • access to private backend code, detection systems, datasets, models or infrastructure; or
  • permission to imply that a fork is an official or endorsed Forum Fortress release.

When a plugin connects to the Forum Fortress hosted service, that service use is governed separately by the Terms of Service, the applicable plan, authentication, billing and abuse controls. Forks may use another compatible service or modify the plugin as the GPL permits.

Contributions are submitted under GPL-2.0-or-later, the same licence as the plugin. Contributors retain copyright in their contributions. Forum Fortress does not require a contributor licence agreement or copyright assignment.

Preserve copyright, SPDX and third-party notices. Do not submit private service code, credentials, customer data, proprietary forum-platform code, or other material you do not have the right to contribute.

Trademarks and older releases

Forum Fortress names and logos are trademarks claimed by Marscastle Ltd trading as Forum Fortress. Modified versions may describe their origin but must not imply endorsement or official status. This trademark clarification does not restrict GPL rights or lawful descriptive and nominative use.

The licence shipped with a particular historical release continues to describe that copy. Existing tags and release artifacts are not rewritten. Each plugin's changelog identifies its first GPL-2.0-or-later release.
